This year I am celebrating life. I am happy to be alive and have a good gut health.
In January 2004, at the age of 34 I thought my life was over. Today, June 2024, against all odds, I am still here. So, I am posting here a summery of the highlights of my book “The Naked gut – true story”. It is a story of my survival and fight with severe Crohn’s disease during 2004-2018. Also please read “important Disclaimer”.
Personal Journey and Recovery: Finding Strength Through Adversity
The Struggle and Turning Point
Storyteller: In 2003, Tommi faced a life-threatening phase of Crohn’s disease, which led to severe weight loss and multiple surgeries. He underwent two major operations within a week, removing a significant portion of his small intestine. Despite all setbacks, he is grateful to the medical team that saved his life twice in a week. This period was marked by intense pain, frustration and a strong determination to find a way to heal. He had no other choice than fight for his life.
From the book: “In 2004, my life hit rock bottom, I weighed under 100 pounds (45 kg). I had lost more than 40 pounds (20 kg) in a short time. Recovery took about two years.
No Other Choice
The severity of my condition left me with no other option but to change my course. Traditional treatments were ineffective, and I realized that if I wanted to get better, I had to explore alternative ways.
Lifestyle Changes, Committing to health
Significant lifestyle changes were essential for my recovery. This included dietary adjustments, stress management techniques, and the use of natural remedies and supplements. There were moments I wanted to give up, but the support of my family, especially my wife, mother and friends kept me going. Something from inside kept telling me, never give up!
Diet and Nutrition: Changing my diet to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD™) was essential. Fermented products like kefir and sauerkraut together with Omega-3 fatty acids helped restore my gut health.
Cal-Pro Test Success: By identifying and eliminating food allergens through the IgG test, I reduced Cal-protectin levels from 1700 to 130, marking a significant reduction in inflammation.
Lifestyle Changes: Incorporating anti-inflammatory smoothies, diagnosing food allergies, eliminating foods that triggered symptoms and avoiding chemicals were key to my healing process.
Mental and Emotional Strength: Staying positive and using visualization techniques were vital. Imagining myself healthy kept me motivated.
Current Lifestyle: Today, I lead a healthy life with a diet combining SCD™, Paleo, Vegetarian, and Mediterranean principles. If my journey inspires you to live healthier, I feel blessed, mission accomplished.
Important Disclaimer
In serious conditions like Crohn’s disease, always seek medical advice from your doctor. This book is not intended to diagnose, prescribe, or replace medical care. In 2004 there were no good medicines for me. Today, 20 years later, 2024 there are some promising biological medicines like Stelara®.
