GUT BACTERIA IS CRUCIAL IN OUR LIFE

I admit, I did not pay any attention to the healthy and balanced bacteria before nor did I understand how important our digestive system to our health is. Years of neglected behavior, mainly as unhealthy food choices like sugar, gluten etc. were nibbling my gut bacteria until I realised how essential it is to our wellbeing.

INTESTINES AND BASKETBALL COURT?

Our gut is a mystery like Amazon, because there is so much that surprises us over and over again. If Amazon is the planet´s lungs and natural pharmacy, our gut is the mother of our immune system. The size of your intestines is huge, if opened it is equivalent to a basketball court.

Microbes in the gut weigh between 1–2,7 kg and there are around 100 billion of them. If you destroy the balance with undernourished and processed food, sooner than later you will carry the consequences possibly in different illnesses, autoimmunity diseases etc.

NATURAL BIRTH

Bacterias have a huge impact in the beginning of our lives. A vaginal birth gives the newborn baby much better immunity than C-section birth and protects the intestinal tract with the bacterias it gets from
mother´s vaginal and intestinal flora (at least Bifidobacterium, Lactobasillus and Escheria coli). Babies born through natural childbirth are more alert and show more interest in breastfeeding once delivered to the world.

C-SECTION

Those who are born via C-section/caesarean section loose important bacterias right in the beginning and have lower immunity, so they need lots of healthy bacteria added in their breast milk. Caesarean also increases the levels of skin associated bacteria including Staphylococcus. The goal is to give a safe birth both to mom and baby, so sometimes C-section is necessary, so do not blame anyone if that option is taken.

MOTHER´S MILK

Another important thing to our immune system is breast milk and bacterias have a big role in it too. Oligosaccharides that are present in mother´s breast milk also promote the growth of two healthy bacterias, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. These bacterias have a big impact to our immune system and to our health and future. Breast milk is ultimately the best source of nutrition for a new baby. Many components in breast milk help build immunity and protect your precious baby against infection and disease. The proteins in breast milk are more easily digested than in formula or cow’s milk. The calcium and iron in breast milk are also more easily absorbed.
